Hawkhead Cemetery Roads Much More Is Needed To Be Fixed

Whilst a recent set of improvement works costing £300,000 has improved two roads within Hawkhead Cemetery it’s still leaving other areas in much neglect.

the effect of years of underfunding

Whilst no one can fault the staff working within the cemetery as they all do an exemplary job, the lack of funding by all parties over years still shows the neglect of maintenance and the danger to pedestrians and road users within the grounds.

one road that’s posing a danger

It seem that the newer sections within the grounds is receiving more attention is the claim by users of G section, one elderly lady who got in contact with Paisley Photographs weeks ago said she no longer felt safe walking in the area due to her disability.

in urgent need of repair

I contacted the department responsible a few weeks ago and the reply was “ These areas have already been inspected by our Roads Department and we are currently waiting for repair works to be programmed. I should advise that the road surfaces in this area do need significant capital funding in the longer term to match the standard of the main refurbishments. These works will improve the surface on the cemetery in the short term. There is no remaining capital this year after the current works have been completed. At this stage I cannot determine if the Council will allocate for any further funding major infrastructure works. “

I then raised a complaint about damage to a section i personally seen happen when a new road was going in and basically now been told Renfrewshire council that they were closing the enquiry, so sadly it appears it’s ok for surrounding areas to be damaged whilst new sections are being done.

Let’s hope funding can be found …
