All to often we report whats happened and never follow up posts, so decided upon a revisit to the scene in Johnston Street three months on to find out what has happened to date
It was on June 2nd 2023 that a fire ripped through Aladdins takeaway in Johnston Street in Paisley and the scene could have been more devastating if it wasn’t for the actions of PC Grant Miller that night who was returning to base at Mill Street when he spotted the fire and alerted the flats above Aladdin Tandoori and safely evacuated the close above.
For Aladdins despite records showing no insurance was in place at the shop there is buildings insurance but nothing seems to be getting done. Aladdins have set up a new pizza shop in Neilston Road, However three months on we find one local shop is still having to draft in there own water supplies whilst Scottish Water do nothing to get the supply back up to normality.
Environmental health has been called out numerous times to the fire ravaged premises regarding the smell of smoke, foul smell and the mess in the backcourt which has still to be cleaned and tenants can’t sadly use the backcourt till this is sorted. Luckily this hasn’t affected other local businesses but it needs attended to urgently before this might happen. Customers and general public walking by are already speaking of the smell getting worse within the area, we lodged with with complaint personally with Scottish Water today – with a reference number being obtained.
We were informed of the amount of tenants still within the area attending their doctors due to the smell affecting them by breathing in particles in the air, even after the fire is long gone smoke in the air contains harmful mix of particles and gases, Inhalation inflames the lungs and airways, causing swelling which blocks oxygen absorption, When smoke damage remains, a source stated to paisley photographs the chemicals still make their way into your lungs and bloodstream through the air, which can cause serious health problems such as: Coughing and shortness of breath. Skin and eye irritation.
Insurance companies have still to take action on the damaged flats above the premises. We will keep you posted on this !.
