Sometime’s you go to a Doors Open Day event to capture photos that you can share online, today was one of those days that comes along once in a lifetime.
Heading along to the Govan Stones project at Govan Old Church where a Archeological dig has been taking place and on its last dig day, and a previous plot that was dug out during the Time Team visit in 1996 has unearthed a treasure thats sure to be of national importance. The stone showing a sculpture which had been used as backfill and missed during the 1996 dig was unearthed today.
Standing there as the stone was washed and as the image appeared was a moment of excitement. The stone shows a sculpture with a figure holding what appears to be a shield on straps with a long shaft being carried over the shoulder as well as possibly part of a beard and what could be the base of a helmet at the top.
