A memorial service was held today in Houston square Johnston to mark the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the johnstone war memorial.
The memorial which features kilted soldier has stood at the centre of town since its unveiling on the 10th of May 1924 and has been at the centre and a beacon of Johnston’s remembrance events ever since.
A host of dignitaries attended the remembrance service and rededication service including Renfrewshire Provost and Councillor Lorraine Cameron, the Lord lieutenant of Renfrewshire Peter McCarthy who was representing King Charles. A informal lunch was held afterwards at the Lilybank bowling club in Johnston.
