New Two-Way Speed Camera Enhances Road Safety in Paisley

A new two-way speed camera has been installed and is now being tested by Police Scotland at the junction of Brediland Road and Greenways Court. This development marks a significant step forward in improving road safety in the area.

Originally scheduled for installation last month, the project faced a delay due to the discovery of underground cables at the initial site near the junction with Inverkar Drive. Despite this setback, the team quickly adapted and moved the installation to its current location at Brediland Road and Greenways Court.

The installation of this speed camera comes in the wake of a tragic accident. On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Jim Paterson, a 63-year-old pedestrian, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Brediland Road just after midnight. The incident shook the community and underscored the urgent need for improved traffic safety measures.

In June last year, Police Scotland announced that a 26-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal crash. This sad event brought together residents with Councillor Stephen Burns to push for enhanced road safety measures, culminating in the installation of the new speed camera.

Councillor Stephen Burns has been a vocal advocate for this initiative. Alongside concerned residents, he has tirelessly campaigned to get the speed camera operational. Their collective efforts have finally borne fruit, promising a safer environment for all road users in the area.

As the testing phase progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the full activation of the speed camera within days. The hope is that it will deter speeding and promote safer driving habits, ultimately preventing further tragedies on Paisley’s roads.
