Linwood High School’s New Breakfast Club Boosts Student Focus

On the morning of September 16th, 2024, Linwood High School welcomed something new—a breakfast club! What might seem like just another school project has actually made a big difference for many students and teachers at Linwood.

The idea for the breakfast club started months ago, in April, when some caring teachers noticed that many students were arriving at school hungry. It’s hard to concentrate on math or reading when your stomach is growling! So, they decided to find a way to help.

Starting the club wasn’t easy. The school needed money to buy food and equipment, like toasters and trays. That’s when The Breakfast Club stepped in and gave the school a grant to cover the costs for a whole year. Even companies like Heinz and Warburton’s pitched in by donating bread, cereals, and other breakfast foods.

The breakfast club now opens every morning at 8:20 AM and serves around 50 to 60 students each day. Teachers say they can already see a difference—students are more focused, less fidgety, and have more energy for learning.

What’s great about this club is that it’s flexible. If someone comes in late, the staff make sure they still get something to eat. For some students, that extra meal makes a huge difference to their day.

But it’s not just about the food. The breakfast club has become a place where students can hang out with friends, relax, and start their day feeling good. It’s a space where everyone can come together, feel part of the school community, and focus on learning—without worrying about being hungry. For many students, it’s already one of their favourite parts of the day!
