Paisley Man to Stand Trial for Fatal Crash on Brediland Road

A 28-year-old man from Paisley is set to stand trial accused of killing a 63-year-old grandfather after a fatal collision on Brediland Road. Callum Fox is facing charges related to the death of James Paterson, who was struck by Fox’s vehicle on November 27, 2022, while walking along the road.

James Paterson, a well-known figure in the community, tragically lost his life after being hit by a Mercedes allegedly driven by Fox. The incident occurred in broad daylight, and witnesses have described Fox’s driving as reckless and dangerous. It is claimed that Fox was driving while impaired by alcohol and was speeding at “grossly excessive” rates for the area. According to the prosecution, he overtook a taxi at a point when it was unsafe to do so, leading to the collision that ultimately claimed Paterson’s life.

Callum Fox, who faces serious charges including causing death by dangerous driving, has pleaded not guilty to the allegations. His defence attorney, Kings Counsel John Scullion, confirmed that the defence team is prepared for a trial to be fixed and will be challenging the charges in court.

The trial, which is expected to begin in November, will scrutinise the events leading up to the tragic incident, including the state of Fox’s driving and his level of impairment at the time of the crash.

The death of James Paterson has left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and the wider Paisley community. Tributes have poured in, remembering him as a kind and caring individual who was well-liked by those who knew him. Local residents have also expressed concerns about the dangers of driving under the influence and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws which has led to the installation of a speed camera on Brediland road to help prevent further tragedies.

As the trial date approaches, the legal process will unfold in the coming months, and the community is eager for justice to be served.
