Renfrewshire Council has firmly dismissed claims that the former Montrose Day Care Centre is set to be turned into an asylum centre. The rumours stemmed from a video posted on YouTube by Craig Houston, who claimed to have an “exclusive” story based on concerns raised by locals.
In the video, Houston alleged that movement around the bin shelter and the presence of containers suggested preparations for an asylum centre. However, a simple check of Google Maps shows that these containers have been in place since before 2011, making the claim unfounded.
A spokesperson for Renfrewshire Council confirmed that there are no plans to convert the site into an asylum centre. Instead, the property is set to be marketed to other care home providers in the coming months, in an effort to find a new use that benefits the community.
This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before spreading speculation online. Local residents looking for updates on the future of the site are encouraged to rely on official sources rather than unverified social media claims.
