A once-derelict site in the heart of Paisley has been transformed into a welcoming new community, as development is completed on 48 modern social housing flats.
Built on the site of the former Arnold Clark garage in East Lane, the project has delivered a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments—four of which are wheelchair accessible and located on the ground floor. All 48 flats have now been allocated to tenants, marking a significant step forward in efforts to meet the growing demand for quality affordable housing in the area.
The development was carried out by The JR Group on behalf of Loretto Housing Association, part of the wider Wheatley Group. For The JR Group, which is based in Paisley, this project was particularly close to home.

Andrew Dallas, Projects Director at The JR Group, said:
“This project is an excellent example of a derelict site turned into a thriving community of affordable homes, helping to address the current urgent need for new, quality homes in the area. It has been a rewarding project to deliver on behalf of Loretto Housing Association, particularly as this is located in The JR Group’s hometown.”
The transformation of East Lane from a former car dealership into a vibrant residential space is more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about creating a place people can be proud to call home.

Laura Henderson, Managing Director of Loretto, echoed that sentiment:
“We always want to build homes and communities people are proud to live in.”
Originally announced in December 2023, the project was supported by Renfrewshire Council and forms part of a wider strategy to tackle housing need through high-quality social rent options.
Frank McCafferty, Wheatley’s Group Director of Repairs and Assets, said:
“These modern, energy-efficient new homes for social rent are an important boost for the area and will really help improve our tenants’ quality of life.”
With families preparing to move in, the East Lane flats are more than just new homes—they represent hope, stability, and a fresh chapter for dozens of local residents.
