Flat Fire Closes Johnstone Road as Emergency Services Respond

A Johnstone road was closed this afternoon following a fire at a top-floor flat on Macdowall Street.

The blaze broke out at number 50, on the corner of Macdowall Street and Ferguson Street, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

One witness reported seeing two firefighters rush into the building wearing full Breathing Apparatus sets, with another two entering the property around fifteen minutes later as the response escalated.

Scottish Fire and Rescue dispatched three appliances from their Johnstone control room to tackle the fire, alongside a specialist vehicle. The Scottish Ambulance Service also sent a unit to the scene, while Police Scotland responded with around five vehicles to assist with traffic control and public safety.

Fortunately, there are no reports of serious injuries at this time.

Emergency crews remained on site throughout the afternoon, with one side of Macdowall Street closed to allow safe access for responders and to ensure the scene was fully secured.
