Monsignor Charles Cavanagh RIP

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Monsignor Charles Cavanagh has passed away this afternoon, called peacefully to the Father’s House. Fortified by the Rites of the Catholic Church, he died at Holy Rosary Residence, where he had gone just a few days earlier for respite care following a period of declining health.

Monsignor Charlie, as he was affectionately known, served the Church with unwavering dedication for over six decades. On the Feast of St Matthew, 21st September 2023, he marked a remarkable milestone — his Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of priestly service. That occasion stood as a testament to a life devoted to faith, community, and love of God.

Throughout his ministry, Monsignor Cavanagh touched countless lives with his gentle wisdom, steadfast compassion, and deep pastoral care. Whether in times of joy or sorrow, his presence brought comfort and strength to so many in our parishes and beyond.

We will share funeral arrangements in due course. In the meantime, we ask you to pray for the happy repose of his soul, and for the consolation of his family, friends, and all those who mourn his passing.

Requiescat in pace, Monsignor Charlie. Your legacy of faith lives on in the hearts of all who knew you.
