A late-night walk turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 51-year-old man who was attacked by three men near Ferguslie Park Gardens in Paisley.
The incident happened around 9pm on Thursday evening. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries. His current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Police Scotland has launched an investigation into the attack, describing it as a “frightening ordeal” for the man, who had simply been out walking his dog.
Detective Constable James Campbell, who is leading the inquiry, said:
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who has not already spoken to officers to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help us piece together what happened and identify those responsible.”
The assault comes just weeks after police reported a rise in anti-social behaviour in and around Ferguslie Gardens. Officers had previously urged members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in the area.
The latest incident has left residents in shock, particularly given the park’s popularity with families, dog walkers, and joggers. Calls are now growing for increased police patrols and improved lighting in the area.
Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV, or any information from the area around the time of the assault to get in touch.
