Detectives are appealing for information after a fire caused extensive damage to a shipping container in Johnstone during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 4.15am on Saturday, 24 May 2025, when emergency services were called to reports of a fire in the Greenend Avenue area. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly and extinguished the blaze, but the container was left extensively damaged. A significant amount of property inside was destroyed.
Police have confirmed they are treating the fire as wilful fire-raising and have launched an investigation.
Detective Constable Kenny McLachlan, of Paisley CID, said:
“The container was extensively damaged with a high value of property destroyed. Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries.
“I am appealing to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the local area to contact us. I would ask residents who have video doorbells, CCTV or dashcam footage to review it, as it may have captured something that can assist our enquiries.”
