Police Appeal for Witnesses After Lorry Crash Closes Arkleston Road Bridge

Road policing officers in Glasgow are appealing for information following a serious crash on the M8 that has led to the closure of a key route in Renfrew.

The incident happened around 2.50pm on Wednesday, 4 June, 2025, when a lorry carrying a heavy load struck the Arkleston Road bridge over the motorway. The collision caused significant damage, prompting an immediate closure of Arkleston Road for safety reasons.

The road is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future as engineers assess the structural impact and begin repairs.

Police Sergeant Adnan Alam from the Road Policing Unit said:

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. I would also urge any motorists with dash cam footage from the area at the time to get in touch, as this could assist with our inquiries.”

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and follow local diversions while Arkleston Road remains closed.
