Renfrew Bridge has been closed to all traffic and pedestrians this morning following the discovery of a possible ordnance device at a nearby building site.
It comes just weeks after another ordinance device was found ( pictured )
The item was found around 10am, prompting an emergency response. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists have been contacted and are en route to assess and, if necessary, safely dispose of the object.
Police have cordoned off the area as a precaution, and motorists and pedestrians are being urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes. Delays are expected, particularly around the town centre and on approaches to the bridge.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance at a construction site near Renfrew Bridge following the discovery of a suspected ordnance device. EOD have been contacted and enquiries are ongoing.”
There is no indication at this stage of any wider threat to the public, but the area will remain closed until it is deemed safe.
More updates will follow as information becomes available.
