New NHS Shuttle Bus to Launch Between Vale of Leven and Royal Alexandra Hospitals

A new free shuttle bus service will be introduced this Sunday, 29th June, by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) to support travel between Vale of Leven Hospital (VoLH) and Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).

This dedicated service is aimed at improving transport options for NHS staff and patients with hospital appointments, offering a more cost-effective and reliable connection between the two sites.

Why Is the Transport Service Changing?

The new NHS-run shuttle replaces a previous service operated by a bus company, which had seen low passenger uptake—averaging between 33% and 35% of capacity across scheduled journeys.

The cost of running the external service had also increased significantly, rising to more than £174,000 a year for 2025/26. By taking the service in-house, NHSGGC aims to provide better value while continuing to support those who need to travel between the two hospitals.

Who Can Use the Service?

The shuttle is available to:

  • NHS staff
  • Patients with a hospital appointment at either VoLH or RAH
  • Carers accompanying a patient

Patients will need to show proof of an appointment to use the service. It’s important to note that this is not a public servicevisitors and members of the general public will not be permitted to travel.

When Will It Start?

The new shuttle service will begin operating on Sunday, 29th June.

What’s the Route?

The bus will run directly between Vale of Leven Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital with no other stops along the way.
