A dream has become a reality for pupils at Linwood High School after a popular idea was transformed into a heartwarming new project — a school coffee shop called Expresso Yourself.
When asked what they would love to see in their school, one of the most popular responses from pupils was a coffee shop. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of staff and students, that wish has now been granted. A former art classroom at the Pupil Support Centre has been transformed into a welcoming café space, now open to pupils, teachers, and parents alike.
Expresso Yourself opened its doors to families, giving pupils a chance to showcase their efforts — and their growing skills — to parents, carers, and friends. The buzz of excitement was matched by the smell of fresh coffee as young people proudly explained how the project came together and what it means to them.
The new venture isn’t just a cosy space to grab a cuppa — it’s also a hands-on learning experience. Pupils involved in running the café are gaining valuable work experience and even working towards a qualification at the same time.
Visitors to the Pupil Support Centre were full of praise for what they saw. Many commented on the calm, colourful environment and the warm welcome they received from both staff and students. One parent called it a “very informative and positive experience,” while another said, “I really enjoyed meeting the staff and the pupils. The Pupil Support Centre felt like a very positive and nurturing place.”
The Centre itself has become a shining example of good practice, with six well-appointed spaces designed to be calm and inspiring. Music, colour, and creative activities fill the rooms, and the pupils clearly feel a sense of ownership and pride in their work. Every student who spoke with visitors was confident and articulate, able to explain exactly what they were doing and how it benefited them.
Staff at Linwood High were also praised for their dedication, motivation, and the impact of the additional training they’ve received. As one visitor put it: “The variety of activities and approaches on show was amazing, and every single pupil we met was able to say something about what they were doing and how the areas benefited them personally and educationally. Very, very impressive.”
With Expresso Yourself now open for the pupils, and visitors to the pupil support centre, it’s clear that Linwood High School isn’t just serving coffee — it’s serving up opportunity, confidence, and a strong sense of community.
