Man in Court Over Vandalism at Barrhead Cemetery

A man has appeared in court accused of causing significant damage to around 40 headstones at a cemetery in Barrhead.

Polish man Grzegorz Strzelecki, 39, was brought before Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with a series of alleged offences at St Convals Cemetery on Glasgow Road. The charges include wilful fire-raising, malicious mischief, and extensive vandalism within the cemetery grounds.

The incident, which has shocked the local community, is believed to have caused serious damage to the resting places of numerous families. Floral tributes, ornaments, and headstones were reportedly left in disarray, leaving visitors distraught and demanding answers.

Strzelecki made no plea during the brief hearing and was remanded in custody pending further investigation. The case has been continued for further examination.

St Conval’s Cemetery is one of the main burial grounds in the area and is regularly visited by families and loved ones. News of the vandalism spread quickly on social media, with many expressing outrage and sadness at the apparent destruction of such a sensitive site.
