A new type of advertising hoarding with the potential to save lives could soon be installed on Paisley High Street.
Outdoor advertising company JCDecaux has submitted a planning application to site the unit outside the former Thomas Cook shop at 13A High Street, beside Santander. Unlike a standard billboard, the proposed hoarding includes a built-in public access defibrillator — a device that can be critical in the event of a cardiac emergency, USB / wireless Phone charger and an emergency 999 button
The planning application is currently under consideration and awaiting a decision.
If approved, the installation would bring a new defibrillator to the heart of the town centre, helping boost public access in an area with high footfall. Defibrillators are designed to be easy to use and can dramatically increase the chance of survival when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
JCDecaux has previously trialled similar installations in other locations across the UK, blending essential public health infrastructure with advertising technology.
Local residents and businesses will be watching closely to see whether the application is approved — and whether this new blend of commerce and community care becomes a fixture on the High Street.
