Hundreds of Trees Felled at Dykebar Hospital as Housing Development Begins

Work is now underway at the Dykebar Hospital site, where hundreds of trees have already been felled in the first two days on site to make way for a major housing development.

The land, once home to mature woodland surrounding the historic hospital grounds, is being cleared to prepare for over 600 new homes to be built by Bellway Homes, Barratt Homes and Cala Homes.

The large-scale development has been in the pipeline for several years, sparking debate locally over the balance between much-needed housing and the loss of green space. For many in the community, the sight of felled trees marks a significant change to an area that has long been valued for its woodland character and wildlife.

Developers say the project will deliver a mix of housing types, helping to meet local demand and contributing to economic growth in the region. However, concerns remain about the impact on biodiversity, traffic, and the strain on nearby infrastructure.

As clearance work continues, the transformation of the Dykebar site is now firmly underway — reshaping the landscape of this corner of Paisley for generations to come.
