Paisley Teen Jailed for Brutal Street Stabbing

A teenage thug has been locked up for nearly five years after a violent knife attack on a boy in Paisley.

Harvey Hogg launched the brutal assault on a 17-year-old during a confrontation in Caledonian Street on July 14, 2023.

The court heard how Hogg pulled a knife and stabbed the teenager, assaulting him to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment, and to the danger of his life. Emergency services were called to the scene and the victim was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, he survived the ordeal.

Hogg was later arrested and charged in connection with the attack. Appearing at court this week, he admitted the stabbing and was sentenced to four years and ten months in custody.

The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about knife crime among young people in Renfrewshire. Local campaigners have repeatedly called for tougher action to tackle violence and provide more support for teenagers at risk of being drawn into street crime.

Residents in the Caledonian Street area described the incident as “terrifying” and said they hoped the jail sentence would act as a warning to others.

Knife crime continues to be a major issue in communities across Scotland, with police urging anyone carrying weapons to think about the devastating impact they can cause.
