A Linwood High School pupil who will fly out from London today is set to fly the flag for Great Britain at the IFAF Youth European Flag Football Championships in Austria.
Logan McFie, an S4 student, will take up the quarterback role for Team GB after coming through a tough four-month trial process earlier this year.

The 15-year-old’s love of the sport began at home. “I first got interested after my stepdad got me watching the NFL,” said Logan. “When I started learning the sport myself, I found the challenge more interesting, difficult to learn — and fun.”
He found out in April that he had secured his place. “It felt great that I had finally made it,” he said.
Since then, Logan has been training hard and traveling for monthly team sessions, all while keeping up with his schoolwork. He credits both his family and Linwood High’s head of P.E., Mr Gordy Mothersole, for their support. “My parents have supported me a great deal, as has Mr Mothersole — although we do have a little difference when it comes to supporting teams,” he laughed. “He’s a 49ers fan and I’m a Cowboys fan.”

Logan believes his speed and mobility helped him win selection. Now, he’s eager to test himself against Europe’s best. “I’m looking forward to meeting new players and playing against strong teams like Spain or France,” he said. “Representing my country feels like a great achievement.”
His ambitions reach even further, with hopes of one day playing in the United States. But for now, he’s focused on Austria — and inspiring others to give the sport a go. “My advice would be: give it a try and see if you like it.”
