The trial has begun of Liridon Kastrati, 32, who is accused of deliberately ramming a car into a marked Police Scotland vehicle before chasing officers through Paisley in May last year.
Kastrati is alleged to have stolen a black Volkswagen from George Street on May 6, 2024, before driving it at speed through the town centre. Prosecutors claim he mounted the pavement and collided head-on with a marked police car, which had two officers inside at the time.
The court heard that, after the crash, Kastrati allegedly pursued the officers on foot in what the Crown described as a “chaotic and dangerous incident” involving multiple members of the public.
Kastrati denies all the charges against him. The trial, expected to last several days, will hear evidence from police witnesses, forensic specialists, and members of the public who were in the area at the time.
