Renfrewshire High School Closed Following Suspected Gas Leak

Parents and carers of Renfrew High pupils are being informed of an unexpected school closure today (Friday 5 December) following the discovery of a suspected gas leak.

A smell of gas was detected within the building earlier this morning, prompting an immediate and full evacuation of pupils and staff. Everyone was safely moved outside, and the school has confirmed that all pupils and staff are safe and well.

Gas engineers arrived promptly and are currently working to identify the source of the issue. However, as the investigation is expected to take additional time, the decision has been taken to close the school for the remainder of the day as a precaution.

During the evacuation, not all young people were able to collect their belongings or mobile phones. Staff are now checking which pupils are able to travel home safely; those who can are being allowed to leave, while others—especially those needing essential items from inside or who cannot get home safely—will remain supervised on site until appropriate arrangements can be made.

Parents and carers who need to contact the school can do so via 07811 057520 or 07811 057903, although the school has advised that lines may be busy.
