Man charged after police officer allegedly attacked on Renfrewshire street

A man has been charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted in Johnstone.

The incident happened in the Sycamore Avenue area at around 3pm on Wednesday, January 14, when officers were approached by a 24-year-old man who was said to be acting in an abusive and threatening manner.

One officer was assaulted during the incident. The officer was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged.

The man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident and was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Wednesday, January 14, officers were approached by a man in the Sycamore Avenue area of Johnstone who was acting in an abusive and threatening manner.

“The 24-year-old man assaulted a police officer and was arrested and charged in connection.”
