Paisley Chainsaw Attacker Jailed

A man who rammed a car into a marked Police Scotland vehicle before chasing officers through Paisley with a chainsaw has been jailed for 10 years.

Liridon Kastrati, 32, was sentenced following a trial at which he was convicted of a series of serious offences linked to an incident in the town centre in May 2024.

The court heard that Kastrati stole a black Volkswagen from George Street on May 6, 2024, before driving at speed through Paisley town centre. Prosecutors said he mounted the pavement and deliberately collided head-on with a marked police car containing two officers.

After the crash, Kastrati was said to have pursued the officers on foot while armed with a chainsaw, in what the Crown described as a “chaotic and dangerous incident” that placed members of the public at risk.

Multiple witnesses were in the area at the time, and the trial heard evidence from police officers, forensic specialists and members of the public who saw events unfold.

Kastrati denied all charges, but was convicted following the trial and sentenced to a decade in prison.
