Tiered Parking Charges to Be Introduced for Council Staff, Councillors and Visitors being Charged

A new tiered parking fee is set to be introduced for Renfrewshire Council staff and councillors from 7 April 2026, according to someone who contacted Paisley Photographs.

Under the proposed scheme, a charge of £26.92 per four-week period will apply, equating to £349.96 per year for those required to pay.

It is understood that some staff will be offered free parking spaces at selected Renfrewshire Council-run car parks, although full details of which locations will be included have not yet been confirmed.

The plans have sparked debate among followers of the Paisley Photographs page we asked some top fans earlier tonight what they thought, with several top fans sharing mixed views on the proposals.

One commenter, JK, said:

“Allowances should be given to anyone registering a death when needing to use the car park.”

SB added:

“If it’s good enough for residents to have to pay on the surrounding streets, it’s only fair that employees should have to pay.”

Meanwhile, HD suggested the policy could be broader and fairer for the wider community:

“It would be nice if locals or visitors could claim free parking passes for local car parks. No doubt it will be car parks close to the council buildings they’ll be offered — they should be offered the Moncreiff Street car park, which is always empty.”

The introduction of parking charges for council staff and elected members is likely to remain a talking point as further details of the scheme emerge and the implementation date approaches.
