Plans lodged to transform industrial units into padel courts

An application has been lodged which could see two vacant units in Renfrew brought back into use as indoor sports facilities.

The proposal seeks a change of use from Retail (Class 1A) to padel courts (Class 11) for Units 14 and 15 at Blythswood Industrial Estate.

If approved, the development would see the units converted into padel courts, introducing the fast-growing sport to the area and bringing new activity into the industrial estate.

Padel – a racket sport similar to tennis and squash – has grown rapidly in popularity across the UK in recent years, with new facilities opening in towns and cities nationwide.

The application states that the change of use would bring the currently underused units back into active use, potentially boosting footfall and supporting local economic activity in the estate.

The proposal will now be considered through the planning process, with a decision expected in due course.
