Man Admits Falling Asleep At The Wheel Of Vehicle And Causing Crash Where One Man Died

A driver who fell asleep at the wheel after finishing a night shift has admitted causing a crash that killed one man and seriously injured another.

Scott Nugent had been travelling along Hawkhead Road on his way home when his vehicle struck pedestrians Stephen Craig and Craig McDermott.

Emergency services were called to the scene and both men were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, Mr Craig died four days later as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.

Mr McDermott survived the crash but was left seriously injured.

Nugent later admitted responsibility for the incident, which happened after he had fallen asleep while driving home following his shift.

He is expected to return to court for sentencing in April.
