51-53 Thrushcraig Crescent

Demolition crews have returned to Thrushcraigs as the next stage of the area’s housing renewal gathers pace.

The second phase of demolition works has now taken place at numbers 51 and 53 Thrushcraig Crescent, where twelve houses has been brought down by contractors Dem-Master Demolition Limited.

It marks the continuation of a major regeneration effort in the neighbourhood, which forms part of a wider £100 million housing-led programme being delivered by Renfrewshire Council.

Earlier clearance work in the area took place in 2025, when numbers 18, 20 and 22 Thrushcraig Crescent were demolished by Caskie Limited. The latest demolitions represent the next step in preparing the site for the construction of modern council housing.

While the buildings themselves may now be gone, the memories created inside them will remain with the families who called them home. Over the decades, those houses would have been the setting for countless family occasions — births and celebrations, weddings and anniversaries, and the sad moments of loss that every family eventually faces. Birthdays would have been marked around kitchen tables, Christmases celebrated with the glow of decorations and the fire roaring in the fireplace, and many Hogmanay nights would have seen the New Year welcomed in with neighbours, laughter and the sound of the bells.

The Thrushcraigs area of Paisley is undergoing a major transformation as part of the council’s long-term regeneration strategy. Plans include demolishing ageing residential blocks at 12–34 and 51–53 Thrushcraig Crescent, along with 101–103 Rowan Street, to make way for new, energy-efficient homes designed to meet modern standards.

The redevelopment is expected to deliver high-quality council housing and significantly improve living conditions for residents. The new homes will be built to modern energy standards, helping to reduce heating costs and improve comfort for tenants.

Residents affected by the demolitions are being supported through the rehousing process. Council tenants from the blocks scheduled for demolition will have the opportunity to be considered for the new-build homes once they are completed.

The regeneration of Thrushcraigs forms part of a wider 10-year, £100 million investment programme targeting eight areas across Renfrewshire. Alongside Thrushcraigs, communities such as Ferguslie ParkBroomlands, and Auchentorlie are included in the initiative.

As well as replacing outdated housing, the programme aims to improve neighbourhoods more broadly by upgrading shared spaces and the surrounding environment. By creating more sustainable homes and better public spaces, the council hopes to enhance the overall quality of life for residents while also helping households reduce their energy bills.

Construction of the new homes at Thrushcraigs is expected to progress over the coming years, with the redevelopment of the area currently targeted for completion around 2027.
