A memorial service was held today in Houston square Johnston to mark the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the johnstone war memorial. The memorial
beneath its weathered facade lies a deeper story – one that harkens back to the early 19th century.
Commemorative plaque had been installed at Johnstone Town Hall. John Fraser1794-1879, was famed for his involvement in the Radical Rising of 1820, where he, along with a number of other ‘radicals’, was tried for treason, following a week of strikes and unrest throughout Scotland.
