Shetland Series 10 Begins Filming in Renfrewshire – Stars Spotted in Lochwinnoch
The critically-acclaimed BBC murder mystery drama Shetland has officially begun filming its highly-anticipated tenth series – and Renfrewshire is once again playing a starring role.
In the new series, DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) and DI Tosh MacIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) head to the remote hamlet of Lunniswick to investigate the mysterious murder of an elderly woman – a retired social worker whose body has been left exposed to the elements for days.

“The case will see Tosh and Calder excavate the victim’s life, past and present, as well as the lives of those who knew her. They soon begin to uncover dark secrets and terrible deeds at the heart of this closeknit community.”
This week, residents of Lochwinnoch were treated to some behind-the-scenes excitement as filming took place in the picturesque village at the Brown Bull. Returning to lead the series are Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell, reprising their roles as Detective Inspectors Ruth Calder and Alison ‘Tosh’ MacIntosh.

Ashley Jensen, one of Scotland’s most recognisable screen talents, is known for her performances in Extras, Ugly Betty, and Agatha Raisin, alongside her central role in Shetland. She was seen filming in Lochwinnoch alongside new guest star Stuart Townsend – an Irish actor best known for his roles as Lestat in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Townsend also directed the 2007 film Battle in Seattle.

Shetland is produced by Silverprint Pictures, part of ITV Studios, and continues to draw viewers in with its gripping storylines and atmospheric Scottish settings. Filming for the new series is taking place across Scotland and the Shetland Isles, with the show expected to air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Local interest in the production remains high, with many keen to catch a glimpse of the cast and crew in action. As filming continues across Renfrewshire and beyond, the excitement builds for what promises to be another compelling chapter in the Shetland story.
