Shetland Returns to Renfrewshire as Series 10 Nears Completion
Renfrewshire continues to be a favourite backdrop for film and TV productions—and the past 48 hours have proven just how popular our area remains with location scouts and producers.

On Tuesday, cameras rolled at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) in Paisley and a nearby church, with a full day’s filming taking place under tight wraps. But it was Wednesday that brought a particularly exciting return: Shetland was back to Renfrewshire ( before heading to Greenock ) to capture the final scenes for its upcoming tenth series, set to air later in 2025.
One of Scotland’s most recognisable screen talents, Ashley Jensen, was spotted in Lochwinnoch—her presence drawing a bit of a buzz among locals. Jensen, known for her standout roles in Extras, Ugly Betty, and Agatha Raisin, has firmly made Shetland her own since taking the lead in the crime drama following Douglas Henshall’s departure.

Joining her on set was Stuart Townsend, the Irish actor known for his dark, charismatic performances as Lestat in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Townsend is also a director in his own right, having helmed the 2007 political drama Battle in Seattle. His appearance hints at an intriguing guest role for the new series—though producers are keeping character details tightly under wraps.
And yes, there were a few other familiar faces on set today—but we’re not going to spoil everything this time around. Let’s just say that when Ashley flashed a warm smile for the camera, it made it even harder to keep our lips sealed!

As filming wraps in Renfrewshire tonight, anticipation is already building for Shetland Series 10, and local fans will no doubt be keeping a keen eye out for their hometowns on screen when it airs next year.
