Opposing the Proposed Van Scrap Yard and Self Storage Facility at Linwood Road

Today marks a crucial milestone in a community’s journey to protect our environment and preserve the quality of life we cherish. As many of you are aware, Northern Vans, owned by Classic Land and Property Limited, has submitted a planning application that could irreversibly alter our beloved Woody area and threaten our local wildlife habitat.

The proposed project entails the establishment of a van scrap yard and self-storage facility, accommodating over 200 shipping containers, each between 20 and 40 feet long and stacked at least two stories high. This development would encroach upon the picturesque landscape that currently serves as a sanctuary for foxes, deer, birds of prey, bats, and numerous other wildlife species.

Today, concerned residents convened to discuss the implications of this proposal and to coordinate their efforts in voicing their opposition to the planning application. The primary concerns revolve around the potential environmental impact, including habitat destruction, increased flooding risks, and the absence of height limitations for the self-storage containers.

The Woody area, nestled between Linwood Road and Fisher Drive, holds significant ecological value and contributes to the biodiversity of our community. The loss of this natural habitat would not only disrupt the delicate balance of our local ecosystem but also diminish the recreational and aesthetic appeal of our surroundings.

Already,we have seen an overwhelming response from our fellow residents, with approximately 150 submissions lodged against the planning application. This collective outcry demonstrates the depth of our commitment to safeguarding our community’s interests and preserving our natural heritage for future generations.

As we continue our campaign to oppose this development, it is imperative that each of us lends our voice to the cause. Whether through written submissions, attendance at public hearings, or grassroots activism, together, this is one community that can make a difference.

Let us stand united in our resolve to protect our community and uphold the values that define us. Together, we can ensure that the interests of our residents and the integrity of our environment are prioritized in all future developments.
