Historical Family Artifacts Discovered at Waverley Road Flats Demolition Site

The long-anticipated demolition of Renfrewshire Council’s Waverley Road flats in Foxbar officially began on 27th January. The work, carried out by Caskie Ltd, will see the removal of numbers 34 to 56 as part of a wider regeneration effort in the area.

For years, these flats stood as a familiar sight in the community, but their decline ultimately led to their scheduled removal. The demolition marks the end of an era for residents who once called these buildings home.

However, an unexpected piece of history has emerged from the rubble. A newspaper photographer, covering the site, reportedly retrieved a family Bible from one of the flats from the Parish of Paisley, which is believed to be over 100 years old. Alongside it, a collection of family wedding photos was also discovered in one of the flats. At this stage, details remain scarce, but it is expected that more information on these personal artifacts will come to light in the coming weeks, as it was found a few weeks ago.

The discovery raises questions about the former occupants and their connections to the area. Who did these belongings once belong to? How did they end up being left behind? As the demolition progresses, these sentimental finds add a poignant touch to the process, serving as a reminder that behind every building, there are stories, memories, and histories that deserve to be remembered.
