Hope in Sight for Former Royal Alexandria Infirmary Building

Hope could be in sight for the former Royal Alexandria Infirmary Building that sits between Neilston Road and Calside and latterly became the Alexandra Nursing Home till its closure in the late 80’s.

The first step of planning appeared on the Renfrewshire Council planning page this week the proposal of application notice for residential conversion of the former Royal Alexandria hospital building, new residential dwellings, related amenity space, landscaping and parking Alexandra Nursing Home Calside Paisley PA2 6LX, although no plans have been formally submitted this is the first step been taken showing the outlined area where works would take place.

It was recently in March 2022 that flames could be seen in the night sky over Paisley coming from the roof of the building, the quick actions of Scottish Fire and Rescue prevented the fire taking a more serious hold of the building and prevented it reaching neighbouring occupied houses.

  1. I hope something to the advantage of the local community works this time. I lived at RAI during my training and worked for a while after qualifying. It’s sad how the building was neglected, when it has sooo much to offer.
