Around 4am on Saturday, 18 April, 2026, a woman was found injured in Cardowan Road.
Emergency services attended, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
She can be named as 82-year-old Elizabeth Colligan.
Detective Inspector Gordon Walker said: “Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this very difficult time. We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses.
“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened. This includes door to door enquiries in the local area, as well as a detailed review of all available CCTV footage.
“We are especially keen to speak with anyone who saw or heard anything around 4am on Saturday, 18 April, 2026.”
Chief Inspector Jon Watters said: “We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive enquiries are underway. There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak with officers.”
