A siege in Paisley ended tonight after around two hours when a man allegedly threatened to blow up a flat in the town.
Armed police, fire crews, and a police negotiator were called to Lawn Street at around 6.45pm following reports of concern for a man inside a flat.
During the incident, items were thrown from the window of the property and the man was seen sitting on the window ledge on several occasions, prompting fears for his safety and the safety of nearby residents.
Emergency services established a cordon around the area while specialist officers attempted to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion. A police negotiator spent a considerable amount of time speaking with the man as officers and firefighters remained on standby.
The tense stand-off lasted for around two hours before the incident was safely brought to an end later in the evening.
It is understood that no injuries were reported. Police remained at the scene following the conclusion of the siege while inquiries continued into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Residents watched on as the dramatic scenes unfolded in the street, with a large emergency service presence drawing attention from the surrounding area.
