Residents have voiced growing concerns over a derelict building in Paisley after the former janitor’s house at St Mary’s School was left standing with its front door wide open for the past three weeks.
The vacant property, which is owned by the Housing Department of Renfrewshire Council and is awaiting demolition, has become a source of worry for the local community, with reports that both children and suspected drug users have been entering the building.
Locals say the unsecured property poses a serious safety risk and fear it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.
One concerned resident described the situation as “another accident waiting to happen,” adding that leaving the property unsecured is inviting people to enter a building that could be structurally unsafe.
Residents are now calling on Renfrewshire Council to take immediate action to secure the property until demolition begins, preventing unauthorised access and reducing the risk of injury.
With the building having remained open for several weeks, many in the community are questioning why the issue has not yet been addressed. They are urging the council to act before an avoidable tragedy occurs, warning that the longer the building remains accessible, the greater the risk to those entering it.
