The Friends of Hawkhead Cemetery (FOHC) have once again made a significant difference to one of Paisley’s most historic cemeteries after another successful debris clearance weekend.
Over the course of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July, eight dedicated volunteers worked from 12 noon until 4pmeach day, filling more than 150 bags with litter, fallen branches and other debris from across the cemetery. A special thanks to Team Up To Clean Up for arranging the lifting of all the debris.
The volunteers also spent time clearing around overgrown headstones, helping to uncover and preserve the resting places of many of those buried at Hawkhead Cemetery while making the grounds safer and more accessible for visitors.
The Friends of Hawkhead Cemetery were also keen to recognise the ongoing efforts of the cemetery staff, whose hard work throughout the year helps keep Hawkhead Cemetery looking tidy, well maintained and presentable for visitors. The volunteers’ work complements the day-to-day maintenance carried out by staff by focusing on areas such as overgrown graves, fallen branches and accumulated litter.
The Friends of Hawkhead Cemetery regularly organise volunteer clean-up weekends throughout the year and continue to make a huge impact through the dedication of local people who generously give up their time to care for this important part of Paisley’s heritage.
The group is always keen to welcome new volunteers, with no previous experience required. Anyone interested in helping will be made more than welcome at the next debris clearance weekend, which will take place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August, from 12 noon until 4pm on both days.
Whether you can spare an hour or the full afternoon, every helping hand makes a real difference in preserving Hawkhead Cemetery for future generations.
