Police have launched an investigation after the bodies of a man and woman were discovered on a rural road in Renfrewshire.

Emergency services were called to Corsliehill Road, on the outskirts of Houston, at around 7.50am on Monday, 27 July, following a report of a concern for a person.

On arrival, officers discovered the bodies of a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman. They have since been named locally as Jim Mair and his wife, Stacy Mair.

The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing. Police have not confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident, and reports circulating that it may involve a murder-suicide remain unverified.

A significant police presence remained at the scene, with more than a dozen police vehicles attending the secluded country lane. Officers established cordons at both ends of Corsliehill Road, while uniformed police stood guard near an outbuilding and trailer as forensic investigations continued throughout the day.

The couple, who married in May 2019, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland is continuing its investigation and anyone with information that could assist enquiries is urged to contact officers.
