The husband of a Renfrewshire woman whose death is now being treated as murder had appeared in court just weeks before the couple were found dead.

Stacy Mair, 35, was found dead alongside her husband, Jim Mair, 43, after emergency services were called to the Corsliehill Road area of Houston at around 7.40am on Monday, July 27, following a report of concern for a person.

Following a post-mortem examination, Police Scotland confirmed that Stacy’s death is being treated as murder.

The death of Jim Mair remains unexplained while the results of a post-mortem examination are awaited.

It has since emerged that Jim Mair appeared from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on July 6 charged with assaulting his wife. The case was continued for further examination, and he was granted bail.

The couple married in 2019. Jim Mair operated a tree removal business, TRS Tree Management, while Stacy had previously been listed as a director of the company before leaving the role in January.

Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, supported by local officers, continue to carry out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police have reiterated that there is nothing to suggest anyone else was involved and that there is no wider risk to the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of those affected by this incident.

“They are understandably devastated, and we are providing them with support through specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.”

Chief Inspector Iain Farmer added: “This is a deeply upsetting incident for the families involved, and the impact is felt right across the local community.

“I am grateful for the support we have received as we complete our essential enquiries to ensure the families and local residents get the answers they need.”
