Drivers are being advised to plan ahead as a programme of footway and carriageway resurfacing is set to cause disruption in Paisley town centre throughout August.

Renfrewshire Council will now carry out the improvement works on High Street, between Storie Street and Lady Lane, from Tuesday, August 4, until Monday, August 31 instead of the original date of starting on August 3rd.

The project will be completed in stages, with temporary traffic lights, road closures and diversions introduced to allow the works to be carried out safely.

The first stage will focus on resurfacing the footway opposite Coats Venue. These works are expected to last around two weeks, with temporary traffic lights in operation throughout.

Once the footway improvements have been completed, attention will turn to resurfacing the carriageway between Lady Lane and Storie Street. To carry out this phase safely, sections of the road will need to be fully closed.

The first road closure will begin at 6pm on Friday, August 21, with excavation works taking place that evening before resurfacing continues during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday. The closure will remain in place until 6am on Monday, August 24.

The second phase will begin at 8am on Saturday, August 29, and continue until 6am on Monday, August 31. Although resurfacing will take place during the weekend, the road will remain closed until Monday morning to allow the new surface sufficient time to cure.

Between the two phases, a temporary running surface will be installed, with ramps placed where required around ironwork and at the edges of the resurfaced sections. Motorists are being urged to drive carefully and at an appropriate speed while travelling through the area.

During the road closures, a signed diversion route will be in place via Storie Street, Causeyside Street, George Street, Maxwellton Street and Broomlands Street.

Renfrewshire Council has confirmed that pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project, emergency service access will remain available at all times, and vehicle access to properties within the works area will be facilitated wherever it is safe and practical.

The council expects all works to be completed by 6am on Monday, August 31, although the programme remains subject to weather conditions and operational requirements.
