A long-vacant former community building in Foxbar is set for a new lease of life after plans to transform it into a café and takeaway were approved by Renfrewshire Council.
Planning permission has been granted, subject to conditions, for the conversion of the building on Lyon Road into a new food outlet offering a wide selection of meals and refreshments.
The new business plans to operate seven days a week from 11am until 10pm, serving everything from filled rolls, paninis and homemade soups to kebabs, pizzas, cakes, pastries, tea, coffee and soft drinks.
According to the planning application, the owner recently sold his nearby convenience store and wants to continue serving the local community in an area where he has operated a business for more than a decade.
The application explained that the building was originally a community facility before being sold by the council several years ago. It has remained vacant for a number of years and sits within the heart of the Foxbar housing estate, an area with limited food and café facilities for local residents.
The kitchen will be fitted with commercial catering equipment including a shawarma grill, electric pizza oven, panini press, cooker, soup kettle, refrigeration, ventilation and food preparation areas.
In approving the plans, Renfrewshire Council concluded that the development would primarily serve the local community and would not have a significant impact on nearby shopping centres, including Paisley town centre. Planners also noted that bringing the vacant building back into use would provide a positive addition to the area.
The approval paves the way for work to begin on transforming the former community building into what could become a popular new local meeting place for residents.
