• Ribbon is cut at UK’s first SuperPark at Braehead Renfrewshire which will open its doors to the public early September

In a VIP ceremony held today (Friday 21st August 2026), Harry Nimmo, the Honorary Consul of Finland to the UK, has cut a ribbon to officially open SuperPark Glasgow.

Joining him in the celebrations were local families, dignitaries, media representatives and community groups, together with Jonathan Doherty, Managing Director of SuperPark Glasgow, and Superpark United Founder, Juha Tanskanen, who flew in from Finland to attend what is the first SuperPark opening in the UK.

The new 30,000 ft² multi activity, multi -generational, indoor park, packed with body powered games, will open to the Glasgow public on Thursday 27th August, becoming SuperPark United’s 29th park across the globe. The indoor leisure and recreation concept, founded in Finland in 2012, has parks stretching from Finland, to the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Commenting on the opening of SuperPark Glasgow, an “activity wonderland” for children aged 3 years plus, including their parents, who can actively join in the games and activities alongside their children, Honorary Consul of Finland, Harry Nimmo, said: “SuperPark is fantastic, it’s all about living life to the fullest, and it’s going to bring so much joy to Glasgow.”

“As the UK Consul to Finland, I am involved with many Finnish companies who are already running businesses here in the UK. We welcome SuperPark, in what will be the start of a long and happy relationship, I am sure.”

Juha Tanskanen added his comments: “I am beyond pleased to see SuperPark open in Glasgow, and become the 29th Park in the portfolio. Our concept has a great deal to commend it , not least that community is at the heart of all we do, and encouraging children to move is also at the heart of all we do. Any child, even if they don’t consider themselves to be particularly sporty, will find their own way of moving with joy here, as will their parents.”

Jonathan Doherty, Managing Director of SuperPark Glasgow, took the opportunity, on behalf of his team at SuperPark Glasgow, to thank both Harry Nimmo and Juha Tanskanen, for coming to Glasgow to officially launch the new Scottish park.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to Mr Harry Nimmo, Honorary Consul of Finland, for making the time in his very busy schedule to open this incredible new family attraction. It’s a huge honour for Glasgow to be the first in the UK to benefit from a SuperPark, a concept which sees sport, movement and family time come together,” he said.

“We have also really appreciated Juha, our founder, coming in person to give the park his special seal of approval. Finland is the world’s official happiest country, and now some Finnish joy and positivity has come to Scotland.”

“Millions of people across the world love the SuperPark way of moving and playing together,” continued Jonathan. “Using their own bodies, they laugh, they learn and they play together. The result is more than just fun, it supports physical well-being, social interaction and mental confidence. We can’t wait for families from all over Scotland to enjoy the SuperPark experience. We are confident that children will gain a greater understanding of what their bodies can do!”

During the official launch event, guests were given a tour of the park which offers three different zones of play.

Those attending also had the opportunity to try food and drinks from Scran+ Roadie, the popular Glasgow café headed up by Chris Mears, which has opened a second outlet in SuperPark.

Scott Smith from Hamilton is the General Manager of SuperPark Glasgow. Expressing his excitement at the imminent opening of SuperPark Glasgow, he said: “It’s been our pleasure today to give the children that came along with their parents an amazing early preview of what SuperPark Glasgow has to offer. They’ve tried out lots of different games and pieces of equipment, already choosing some of their favourite activities.”

“We look forward to welcoming them back – no doubt with their friends – when the park opens in September,” he said, adding that SuperPark Glasgow “has a brilliant selection of party packages available for parents interested in holding a birthday party at SuperPark in the coming months.”

“What’s different about SuperPark Glasgow is that when parents go online and fill in one of our party enquiries forms, one of our team members gets straight back to them to give them more information and handle their enquiry personally.  We put a high emphasis on excellent customer care,” he said.

SuperPark offers more than 30+ interactive & inclusive activities inspired by football, gymnastics, dance and freestyle sports, among others. Everything at SuperPark is designed to get children – and parents – moving together in a fun and engaging way.
