£600,000 Community Green Space Set To Transform Ferguslie

A major new £600,000 community development is nearing completion in Ferguslie, with Belltrees set to become a new green space for local residents.

The Belltrees project is expected to be completed by the end of August, with an official opening planned for early autumn.

An update on the development was presented to Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Boardthis week, highlighting the progress being made on the ambitious project.

The new community space will feature a range of facilities designed to encourage people to get outdoors and make greater use of the area, including walking and cycling routes, natural play areas, a community events space and extensive landscaping.

The development forms part of The Making of Ferguslie, a long-term, community-led plan aimed at helping shape the future of the area and creating improved spaces for residents.

The project is being funded through the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme and Place Based Investment Programme, with additional financial support coming from the UK Government’s Strategic Prosperity Fund.

Construction work is being delivered by MacKenzie Construction Limited.

As well as creating a new recreational and community facility, the project has been designed with the environment in mind. Native planting will help support local biodiversity, while improved drainage infrastructure will assist in managing surface water during periods of heavy rainfall.

Once complete, Belltrees will provide Ferguslie with a new community-focused outdoor space, offering opportunities for recreation, play, walking, cycling and local events.

With work now nearing completion, residents can look forward to seeing the new green space open its doors later this year.
