Discover somewhere new during Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Days

Spectacular venues from across Renfrewshire will welcome visitors this weekend as part of this year’s Doors Open Days.

The event which takes place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September is Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating heritage and the built environment, as well as the chance to learn more about buildings old and new.

A number of Renfrewshire locations will be open to the public across the weekend, many with kids’ activities planned to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Buildings offering people the chance to visit and delve deeper into their history include Paisley Abbey, Sma’ Shot Cottages and Weaver’s Cottages in Kilbarchan.

Great outdoor spaces also taking part in Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Days weekend include the RSPB Nature Reserve in Lochwinnoch, Barshaw Park’s Walled Peace Garden and Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardener based in Broadloan Community Gardens.

As part of the activities on offer visitors can join tours of historic graveyards in Renfrew and Paisley with Heritage Buddies, experience the Big Art Show at The Art Department, or try some boxing and fitness drills at Johnstone Amateur Boxing Club.

As part of this year’s programme, visitors will also have the chance to see the opening of the grade A listed Bascule Bridge on Saturday at 11am and 1pm.

Doors Open Days is coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust and is part of European Heritage Days supported by Historic Environment Scotland.
