Are Royal Mail deliveries from the Underwood sorting office taking longer than usual?

Paisley Photographs has been contacted by a member of staff working within the sorting office, who has raised concerns about staffing levels and the impact they may be having on local deliveries.

According to the staff member, staffing pressures have been affecting the depot for several weeks, with some postmen and women reportedly having to cover multiple delivery routes.

We have also been told that staff are being instructed to prioritise parcels and tracked items, while ordinary Second Class mail — including important letters such as hospital appointment correspondence — is reportedly building up within the depot.

The staff member has also claimed that sickness levels among staff are currently particularly high.

📮 So we decided to put the system to the test.

On 4 September 2026, we arranged for eight pieces of Second Class mail and one piece of first class mail to be posted to the same Paisley address from different parts of the UK — including one posted locally in Paisley.

As of 21 September, not a single one of the eight second letters has arrived with the 1st class being given priority and delivered in two days.

That is now 17 days since the second class letters were posted.

We appreciate that individual delays can happen, and this test does not establish the reason for the missing mail. However, the results have prompted us to ask whether other people across Paisley and Renfrewshire are experiencing similar problems.
