A section of masonry falling from the Virgin Money building on Causeyside Street led to the road being closed and the branch being temporarily shut on Wednesday morning.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Virgin Money branch on Causeyside Street, Paisley, during the morning of Wednesday, 7 October, following reports that masonry had fallen from the building.

Firefighters attended the scene and, as a precaution, the road was closed while the area was assessed and made safe.

The fire service remained at the scene until the middle of the afternoon, with the closure causing disruption to traffic and pedestrians in the busy town-centre street.

Contractors were subsequently brought in to erect fencing around the Virgin Money premises, securing the area and preventing members of the public from getting too close to the affected section of the building.

The branch has now been temporarily closed until further notice while the situation is dealt with and any necessary remedial work is carried out.

The incident will no doubt attract attention from local customers who rely on the Causeyside Street branch, with its temporary closure coming as another change to the face of Paisley’s town centre.

Further information on when the branch will reopen is expected once the necessary inspections and repairs have been completed.
