Renfrewshire gears up for another bumper season of fantastic festive events with an array of free, fun-filled activities for all.
One of Scotland’s most popular traditional music acts, Skipinnish, will take centre stage as headliners of the Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-On, promising an unforgettable start to the festive season on Saturday 14 November.
There will be plenty of Christmas family fun on offer including arts and crafts workshops at The Art Department, magical light tunnels in Dunn Square and a funfair on Bridge Street. Visitors will also be able to enjoy exciting street entertainment, including the Living Snow Globes by The Show Globe, fantastical Winter Birds, and festive fun with the Bad Santas. There will be a host of fantastic pop-up performances throughout the day from local acts and a market curated by Big Feed, featuring food, drink and artisan gifts.
The main stage will have a jam-packed programme to keep everyone entertained including Artie’s Singing Kettle, Let Robbie Entertain You, and The Laurettes. Skipinnish will take to the stage before the town’s lights are switched on at 6pm.
The winter celebrations keep on coming with festive events in Linwood on Thursday 19 November, Renfrew on Saturday 21 November, Erskine on Friday 27 November, and Johnstone on Saturday 28 November.
There’ll be plenty for everyone to enjoy in Linwood with a Christmas concert and family panto in the Tweedie Hall (free, tickets bookable in advance), and drop-in activities running throughout the evening including kids Christmas discos and festive arts and crafts, led by Linwood War Memorial Association.
Renfrew families can enjoy a day of festive treats and free entertainment in Renfrew town centre, including a live stage programmed by Fitzpatrick Academy of Music, Christmas market from Stall Hire Scotland, funfair and the popular Carol Concert with Renfrew Burgh Band.
Organised in partnership with Erskine Rotary Club and Erskine Arts, Erskine’s Christmas Lights will be switched on from the new Erskine Civic Square with an evening of festive fun planned, including a giant snow globe and performances from local musicians and school choirs.
Johnstone will have a jolly fun time in Houstoun Square as the twinkling town centre lights are switched on for Christmas alongside a host of free family entertainment, including a live stage programmed by Johnstone Sound and the St Vincent’s Hospice Christmas Market.
Renfrewshire Council Events Manager, Pauline Allan, said: “The festive season is one of the highlights of the year, and we’re excited to bring another fantastic programme of free-to-attend events to all five of Renfrewshire’s towns.
“Working alongside our community partners, local organisations, volunteers and performers, we’re creating plenty of opportunities for families and friends to come together, enjoy great entertainment and make special festive memories this November.”
